Review of Sleeklens Photoshop Actions

I was recently contacted by a company called Sleeklens ( to try out their Photoshop actions for free in exchange for an honest review.  The company said that their actions are designed to help photographers cut down on their time editing and to help make their images pop.  While I have a pretty streamlined workflow at this point, I was curious to see how their actions differed from my own and if I could learn anything new or improve my photos.  I generally start in Lightroom and make global adjustments to color and exposure.  This means that if my white balance is off (aka if the image looks too cool or too warm), I will adjust all of the similar images at that point.  Similarly, if it is too bright or dark, I’ll correct this in Lightroom (and this can vary image by image depending on my vision for each particular photo).  After I make these broad, general adjustments that can apply to all of my images in Lightroom, I will then go into Photoshop to tweak each image and finish it to my liking.

It was at this point that I tested the Sleeklens Actions.  In general, I was quite pleased with the results. Even for a relatively novice Photoshop user, it would be easy to tweak the actions to increase the desired effect of each one.  For my liking, the results of most of the actions were quite strong, but I believe that was the intended result as they are easy to customize.

The pros:  This set is warms the images nicely and makes the colors pop.  The base actions had many layers which made them easy to customize.

The cons:  The action set (Portrait Perfection Photoshop actions) is not as extensive as some other actions sets that I have purchased, in that there are fewer sharpening, dodging & burning, and color tweaking actions.

Here are a few examples below of images that had basic edits only in Lightroom (the “before”) and the finished edit using only the Sleeklens actions (the “after”).

#1 – Used “BASE – From Cloudy Days” at 60%

#2 – Used “BASE – From Nature” at 60%

April 10 on 10 – Personal Favorites

It’s the 10th of the month, which means it is time for another 10 on 10 with my blog circle.   This month I choose to do 10 of my favorite pictures of my girls together.  Narrowing it down to ten was incredibly difficult!  These are ten of my favorites, not because they are technically perfect by any means, but because they bring me back to that day.

June 2010 – The day we brought my littlest home from the hospital.  We got out of the car and their heads were both tilted the same way as they snoozed.

Feb 2012 – Daddy surprised us at home for lunch and they were so excited to see him.  I love how they stood on his feet.

July 2012 – 4th of July, right before the parade.  It ended up being 90 degrees that day.  My oldest has always been so loving toward her sister, and this perfectly illustrates how much she cares for her best friend.

Oct 2012 – The first picture I ever printed at 16×20, and it is still framed in my family room.  I had all of 2 minutes to take this picture, and then they were off.  We had such a fun time together on the playground just behind here on this perfect fall afternoon.

July 2013 – Playing dolls in our playroom, their absolute favorite pastime.

Oct 2013 – During our photoshoot for a Christmas card.  Sisters = best friends

June 2014 – Caught them in the middle of playing dress up.  They were laughing so hard.

Aug 2014 – Ring around the rosie – I love the way my littlest is looking at her big sister!

Dec 2014 – Photoshoot for this year’s Christmas card.  This was just after I squirted whipped cream straight into my oldest’s mouth, which she thought was hysterical.  We had so much fun together!

March 2015 – At a hotel during spring break.  Leave it to a spinny chair to get the most authentic laughs and smiles from kids!  I felt dizzy just watching them, and they could’ve gotten spun for hours upon hours.

Family Fundraiser Mini Sessions | Aurora OH Photographer

As I start to get inquiries about spring family sessions (hurrah for warm weather!), I realize that I never posted pictures from my mini sessions last fall.  This was a special fundraiser to raise money for our amazing preschool, the Aurora Co-Op.  My family has been so blessed to have been a part of this amazing school, and both my children and I have made some of our closest friends here.  Considering the time slots were very short, the children did fantastic and there were so many genuine smiles.  I hope seeing these pictures puts a smile on your face!
